This piece has been brewing in my mind ever since those late nights playing RTS games as a kid – I've always been captivated by the aesthetic and historical context of British dragoons and grenadiers from the industrial era. It feels like a rich period that doesn't get enough love in games and film, so I wanted to put my own spin on a battle scene with a bit of steampunk grit.
For the uniforms, I deliberately went with green and white. It felt like a way to break free from the usual reds and blues and give these soldiers a unique visual identity, suggesting a distinct faction within this world.
Beyond just the final image, I wanted to share a peek behind the curtain with some of the in-progress shots and a few of the Pinterest references that helped shape the feel of the piece. That pistol, though – that was pure inspiration from a photo I snapped at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Seriously, if you ever need weapon inspo, that place is gold.
If you're a studio or art director looking for someone who's passionate about bringing unique historical-fantasy concepts to life for your tabletop games (or other projects!), I'd love to chat. This piece hopefully gives a sense of what I can bring to the table – detailed characters, dynamic scenes, and a willingness to explore interesting visual territories
